Public comment period is open until 2/16/10 on genetically engineered alfalfa.
This will be the first case a genetically engineered crop to go before the Supreme Court.
Monsanto's GE alfalfa was released illegally and they are looking to get it approved.
The draft EIS states wide spread contamination to near by farms has already occured, and a statement that consumers aren't really concerned.
As an organic home gardener and natural foods supporter,I am outraged.
The draft EIS is important for anyone who cares about ever having meaningful oversight of GE crops,or about the rights of farmers to sow the crop of their choice,or about the rights of consumers to choose non-ge foods,or about the environment ,or about the integrity of the organic standards,
The organic Standards clearly states,no genetic engineering...It will be an end to organic dairy and organic grass fed operations if this is passed.
We can't stand by and let this happen. Please send in your comments.
regulations.gov then type in aphis 2007-0044
or you can go to centerforfoodsafety.org they have links and one to be able to print out and send via uspostal mail.

The GE part of this alfalfa is that it can be sprayed with round up. Yes Round up is a chemistry and it would be used to keep tha alfalfa crop free of weeds. What I do not believe that you realize it that as a chemical applicator I would much rather be incontact with the round up molecule than the many other much harsher chemistry for both the environment and people that farmers use today to keep alfalfa free of weeds. yes I too am no great fan of Monsanto but this one time thaey may have come up with something that may not be as hard on the environment and me as an applicator or you an outrage misinformed person.
