The Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg, er, Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. have changed their First Wednesdays events to First Fridays. The first First Friday is March 5. Salem has a First Fridays. Roanoke has a First Fridays. Many towns and cities  have a First Fridays. These events may or may not be 21 and older, but involve music, dancing and a good time. It is something that downtown Blacksburg could benefit from, especially if it was a celebration with a kids’ area too.

So what fun events are scheduled to get people to come downtown?

From their website:
Friday March 5th- Celebrate and Create
In partnership with The Women’s Center at VT

  • Faces of Feminism Gallery Reception in Community Arts Information Office- all welcome- 5-7pm, sponsored by CAIO, The Lyric Council and The Women’s Center at VT
  • Artist Jessica Schaudt displays her beautiful work in the Lyric lobby

  • Mobile Town Hall with Susan Anderson in the Lyric lobby.
  • FREE 45 min. Hot Yoga class from 4 – 4:45 at In Balance Yoga Studio. Pre-registration on the webscheduler is required as space is limited! www.inbalanceyogastudio.com
  • Wine & Cheese Tasting at Gourmet Pantry 5-7pm
    Market Square Park- Garden time
Retail- Create your own discounts in participating locations- pick a discount or gift certificate from the Pot of Gold at point of purchase.

So basically it is First Wednesdays with nothing to really appeal to anyone other than people who already shop the boutiques. Hmmm, maybe the Christiansburg Cruise In may be the place to go. Or Salem. Or Roanoke.
